BarryinIN
No, it's not some kind of pet lizard, it's a rifle. It's a semiautomatic rifle from 1893. Yes, I got the date right- 1893, when the Krag was new and most of the US Army was armed with Trapdoor .45-70s.They were made in Switzerland but designed by a Mexican army general named (duh) Mondragon. Chambered in a 6.5mm caliber, which in itself was almost as radical as the rifle. There is a little info on the Mondragon in "Hatcher's Book of the Garand" since US Ordnance studies it and every other semiauto before proceeding with experimenting and testing that led to the Garand. There is one on Gunbroker right now. I've had a Gunbroker search with email notification on Mondragon for several years, and this is the first one I've seen.I thought someone here might want to look, because the pictures are better than any I've seen in old books, so it's a rare opportunity to just see good pictures.http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=327483713How much? Starting bid was $5,000, and they got that already.
