  1. it more or less selected ME LOL. older gentleman said it was ''brought to Kanada'' by his father ...he had NO USE for it on his liveaboard boat.....I offered to do him a favor and take it off his hands....... I have since done several favors in return.......kind of felt a little guilty of ''doing him the favor''. they are not common in SOUTH AFRICA and are known to perform well on plains game.
  2. I PICKED UP A MODEL.91/30 MADE AT ''IZHEVSK IN 1938. HAS THE ''7th. Graul Arsenal refurb mark on it. (square with line corner to corner). not been shot since factory refurb. after ww2. full of cosmoline........ looks like it just came out of factory..........paid $150 Canadian.....as prices ARE going up quickly, might just leave it ''unfired'' and make a few bucks on it........in 2019..... local CABELAS has a Christmas special on ''new'' Chinese SKS for $189 cdn.....but i'll stick with my RUSSIANS.
  3. Been enjoying my ''as new'' port.6,5x58mm rifle......it took some time and effort to find a set of custom C-H Dies for it. Back woods store in Saskatchewan Canada was glad to'' get rid'' of them. I reform .30-06 and 270 win. cases which took a bit of trial and error...... settled on 140 grain Hornadys. shoots as well as I can hold. Its now 114 years old.
  4. Anyone shooting a post model 88 in .284 Winchester??? have old 125 gr.yellow boxes and white boxes of 150 grain factory ammo reloading with 139 and 154 grainers.
  5. A little late on reply.....friend and I picked up 2 SKS letter guns laminated stocks 1955/56 tula refurbs. one blued one bbq black painted barrel... in boxes, slings, ammo pouches and oilers $179.00 Canadian....from local big box sporting goods store. great cheap shooters....will buy a couple more when next shipment comes in......costs more to gas up my truck and have lunch at burger king!!!!!!
  6. Add a northern b.c. moose,a nice black bear,2 blacktail deer and a coyote who was MOLESTING MY HUNT. inexpensive rifle, good scope .GOODon ya SAVAGE FIREARMS.
  7. Always thought the 375H&H to be one of 3 calibres i would have along with the .30-06 and the 257 Roberts as my final choices if i had only one gun to possess. since 1965 i still can not decide which one. i would feel comfortable with one or the other. In august 1965 my mother asked if i could lend my almost new BROWNING 375 to her best friends boyfriend. TONY the friggin little Hungarian,to go moose hunting. Have not seen tony OR my rifle since. Just can not bring myself to buy another 375 as i , like you already have one out there SOMEWHERE. TT
  8. Really don't like asking but must spend some cash on a new shotgun before i spend it on something foolish like a new stove or cupboards. found a great grouse location while moose hunting this past fall.seems no one hunts them. mule deer and moose are whats hunted in the area. a nice 410 to pot the blues ruffies and big old sharptail. lots in the big fir trees but many more in the willows. could use a .22 but i think the 410 would be ideal.shots under 20 yards. anyone have a 410 mossberg??? how has it performed for you ? have and had 12 and 20 ga. mosseys and they have been good reliable firearms tks TT
  9. NOTE ON MY LAST POST. 240GR. NORMA steel jacketed flatnose soft points kill moose,. at least at 63yards. 800lb. spike. hunting partner next to me with .300 ultramag. was not needed. 1 thru lungs 1 in neck. stumbled 40-50 yards and was down dead. I was looking for mule deer but SWAMP DONKEY presented himself. trick shot? mabe, but it speaks volumes for shot placement.TT
  10. thank you BARRY & WW . Been off computer for a while.TT
  11. AH nice!!!!!!!!!! ever shoot at CUSTER??
  12. HELLO Barry, PSM was a top mag. and i agree that handloader and rifleshooter magazines both are NOT what they were. I grew up with OUTDOORLIFE MAGAZINE, a kid living in the woods without electricity or running water in QUEBEC. It was my "OUT" to the rest of the world.ELMER KEITH would turn over in his grave if he saw where that mag has gone.nothing but advertisements. Such is life.Think i will go reload. TT / aka GLENN
  13. Yes its the mild steel jacketed ammo. two new boxes and the remainder of the third. did some checking on the ruger site. you are correct. its HOT, collecters want it and NORMA do not load it any more. i load 240 grain JHP for my carbine. works flawlessly with 24.5 grs. of H-110. SHOOTING those reloads in my super blackhawk revolver have a BITE but those 240 gr. norma factory soft points really TAKE IT UP A LEVEL OR TWO. I'll just hold on to them . would make a good black bear round. TOFINO TOM/GLENN
  14. HELLO ww, exactly, i can imagine what would happen, telling border securty to contact the BATFE FOR A CLARIFACTION!!! i am sure the border services/border patrol would FIND 500lbs.of world famous B.C.BUD, as its called, in my truck. not good. i unfortunately have the LOOK. 230LBS, SHAVED HEAD LONG BEARD. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE BEARD.shaved head because of the nature of my work. guess i should start wearing sport shirts ,shave the beard and grow my hair.mabe get a cane or walker and loose my sunglasses. guess i will crossinto IDAHO. BUDDY called this evening APACHE JUNCTION ARIZONA. 92 Degrees.beer is ice cold, asked when i was heading down. said How can i leave b.c. its 52 degrees, rained for the past week and my old boss wants me to go back to work for a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. my old boss bought a baby eagle(JERICO941)about 6 months ago. has the poly barrel. after about 300 rounds ,lead and jhp reloads started to key hole at 25 yards. took it back to local CABALAS type sporting goods store. had a new barrel in about 2 weeks. he went to arizona a few days ago.we have run about 150 rounds thru it so far. i don't know if its the II model,i suspect not. TT
  16. FUNNY how diferent laws are. As per BATF&E. i have my 3550-3D form NIA 6. issued by the batfe,my non resident north dakota hunting licence and an invitation letter from the CUSTER SPORTSMANS CLUB in CUSTER WASHINGTON. I even have letters from the ARIZONA DEPT. PUBLIC SAFETY and a letter from the chief of police in APACHE JUNCTION(friend has a place there i am headed for when it gets too old here).SAYING, WELCOME to ARIZONA where i can legally carry my revolvers concealled or open carry.Yet, the border agents at washingtons PEACE ARCH crossing say NO WAY a canadian(FOREIGN ALIEN) will be allowed to enter with a 44 and 357 magnum handgun., heck,i even have a letter from washingtons state bureau of firearm permits saying i can legally enter and cross washington with my guns,on my way to arizona, provided they are unloaded and properly cased.I called the BATFE in VIRGINA the lady, very professional, said TELL THAT MISERABLE BORDER AGENT TO CONTACT US She gave me a phone number, said the agent was in violation of federal law and i was MORE than properly permited to enter with my firearms. I thanked her and will cross the border at IDAHO. imagin telling the border agent he is wrong and phone ATF,heck, they would FIND 500lbs. of worlf famopus B.C.BUD in my truck!!!!!!!!!!!!! seems the feds are taking WASHINGTON STATE/BORDER SERVICES TO COURT over their violation.
  17. My newest old shotgun is a 1952 ithaca model 37 with the corncobslider. right place, right time. fellow hard up for cash. was his dads. slight wear on bluing at muzzle from sliding in and out of gun case. brought my own case and told him to keep the leather case for a souvinier. I ask him if he would like me to call him in the fall to see if he wanted to buy it back. he said thanks but no,it was mine. i did call him in september, we met for coffee. he brought along the leather case, said it belonged with the OLD ITHACA and was glad it had a good home. KARMA, I AM NOt REGLIOUS but believe what goes around, comes around. a week before i called him, i gave a 1910 12ga. ithaca flues with 20ga. inserts to the son of a fellow i worked and hunt with. it was in good-very good condition. the young fellow wanted to hunt grouse and could not afford to buy his OWN shotgun. when i was 14, a friend of my grandad gave me an old IVERjohnson 12 ga. trap gun.I remember how PROUD i was to have my own gun.back then, such things were important to young boys.i had a stevens single shot, but so did all the local farm kids. imagine the horror today, half a dozen kids with guns walking down the towns main dirt road, armed, heck, we have to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle in b.c. to day.anyways,my old new 37 looks almost new. must shoot a few blue and ruffies this wek, once i pare down my wifes honey do list. TOFINO tom
  18. Have an 8 gauge shotgun pre1870. i am 5'11" and 225lbs. i would not like to haul this cannon around, unless it was to my punt on the BAY. a friend of mine who is a boiler maker is trying to find some REMINGTON MODERN 8GAUGE empty hulls.Seems they use them with slugs to knock out the slag in boilers.i would have to turn down the DOUBLE belt on the brass head, but should be able to make them work. 4 drams ffg and 2 0z. lead/light load. we all gotta die sometime EH!!!!
  19. Ireally enjoy shooting my ,50 cal pennsylvania flinter. over the years i have learned a few tricks to make it fire as reliably as a cap lock. i coned the inside of the touch hole insert, opened it up. dished out the pan and shoot fffg in pan and main charge.i started casting.495 pure lead balls, but now only shoot .490. more accurate in THIS flinter and easier to ram in a dirty bore.60-70 gr.3f works for me. its a spanish made barrel. same as the TRADITIONS flinter. same gun that MR. RANDY WAKEMAN bad mouths. but anyone who knows mr.wakeman from several other sights or knows him personally will come to the same opinion i have come to. he works(WORKED) for SAVAGE ARMS. and harbers a grudge against CVA/TRADITIONS. Iknow quite a few folks who shoot cva/traditions and have NEVER had any safety issues.common sense. TT
  20. Was doing a repair job on a friends boat,. he asked if i could do a little detail. knowing my love affair with guns of all types,he said he could pay for the EXTRA with an OLD .22. it was an old marlin, covered in dust but no dents or dings on the wood or tube magazine. took it home,wd-40 released the bolt.(SOMEONE FILLED THE BARREL WITH OILand STUFFED IN A RAG). the bore was spotless and sharp. i lightly sanded off the old finish, spent 2 weeks, watching t.v. on our rainy winter nights hand rubbing the stock with double boiled linseed oil. it has an oversized walnut stock, hooded front sight and rear factory sight. The most accurate 22rimfire rounds in her are american 38gr.hollow points. i have tried win.T-22/ green tag etc. but the cheap hollow points work best. last offer i refused is $450.told the young lady at the club she could buy a brand new RUGER 10-22 and have money left over, she said,BUT YOUR NEW GUN(72 years new)is so nice.(WHATEVER NICE MEANS). i have been outshot by fellows with anschultzs target rifles but i did not pay $1000 bucks.if you read any of my other posts to day(JUST joined) you will realize i am CHEAP!!! need to save money for gas for my bargain boat(Another great story) TOFINOtom
  21. [GREETINGS, from the local old collector, i scored a beautiful 1894 winchester.30-30 musket. full wood,26"barrel. i installed a WILLIAMS 94-36 APATURE rear sight. can not believe i can shoot that well with my RETIRED OLD EYES.gun was never shot, but at my age, all my guns are now shooters.(Except the 8gauge P.WEBLY,pre1870 double). surprising how many firearms are available at rock bottom prices. word of mouth are where deals are found. someones uncle, buddies wifes brother in law etc. put the word out and here they come. TT
  22. Purchased a bottom release mag model savage about 3 years ago for under$4oo dollars. removed the cheap scope and mounts. mounted a LEUPOLD VXII with leupold rings and bases.its accounted for several big blackbear( we make alpine bear pepperoni). this past week a moose from central B.C. the odd soft factory recoil pad really absorbes recoil. i shoot 220gr. hornady rn and 200 gr. speer psp. not premium projectiles, but bullets that have worked for me in various rifles for over 50 years. rifle is well made .so good that i sold my 1964 model 70 in '06 because i found it actually produced more felt recoil. recoil undoubtibly caused by the poorly designrd stock. recommend the rifle to anyone .thats the IIIFCXP3 NOT the accu-triger model. TT
  23. Greetings, anyone else shoot an early 44 carbine? purchased this one for $300 bucks. had 4 NORMA 240 grain soft points fired thru it. i got the rest of the box plus 2 other full boxes .the old fellow loved the look of the carbine ,but did not like its recoil. i mounted weaver bases on it and an old 4X springfield scope. its an awsome little set up that looks like its straight from the 60s. tube feed, but not marked DEERSTALKER thanks to ITHACA. lots of wolves and cougars around here. light and easy to carry on my walks. can't carry a pistol up here. CANADA EH!!
  24. Greetings, i have been lucky enough to have met an old fellow who was selling off his collection of firearms. nothing really special, just firearms he liked(HE WAS NOT a SHOOTER.I purchased a SBH ser.#4xxx. brand new (He gave the wooden box to a friend to keep his trout flies in). friend since died.I cleaned the gun, carefully removed the wooden grips and stored them. installed a set of rubber pachmyers. i installed a peep sight, purchased from a fellow on the RUGERforum, eyes getting tired,.gun is FUN to shoot. purchased it for peanuts. CHECK lever gun and semi auto rifle forum for other GREAT DEALS i got on new old guns. TT
  25. [size:17pt][font:Comic Sans MS][color:#000099]Greetings, have a KIRST 45colt conversion cylinder for my ROA. It is well made, drops right in and is very accurate. shoot home cast 255gr. lswc at around 850 fps. its often asked, well its a RUGER so lets load it over the mfg,s recommended 1000.fps(1000 IS already warm ) . ruger OA is strong, its the cylinder thats in question, so NO RUGER ONLY LOADS.KIRST will only say, cowboy action loads /1000fps or less. No pressure values implied or stated. my wife loves to shoot it. very low recoil,. compares to 44 special in my superblackhawk. well worth the money. TT
